The first time I tried out AI art I was talking to my grandparents about what they wanted for their anniversary. Believe it or not, an image of an old teacup was what they wanted on their birthday card – I had to reterm it to vintage tea set because old when I used it looked weird.
I love teacups but I didn't have any at the time to take pictures of, so I went to my trusty friend ChatGPT. The images on there made me feel like I was stoned. Off to Midjourney I went.
This was about six months ago and even then the images were a little bit tough. Now, though, as you can see, they're much better. I'm going to walk you through my process and what prompts I used so you can make an image much like mine!
Now, before you get overwhelmed with all of the options out there, let's just start with something that is free or cheap – I like Midjourney, Ideogram, and ChatGPT for images.
I use all three of those tools constantly since I have a monthly AI Art Club membership that delivers fantastic value and art. So I know what I'm talking about when we're chatting about AI Art.
Let's just start with Midjourney. Anything I teach you with Midjourney, you can easily apply to the others.
First, let's talk about prompting. You don't need a degree to write a good prompt. All you need to know is how to talk to someone. Anyone. I like to pretend that I'm talking to a 10-year-old who just had a case of pop – full of sugar.
It makes it much easier to keep things short and concise.
Here's the prompt that I want you to try:
“a vintage tea set on a lace tablecloth, pastel tones”
Before you get nervous, you're just going to copy the text that is inside the quotation marks and you're going to paste it into the image prompt generator. See the image right below here.
The text says What will you imagine? That's where you're going to paste the prompt I gave you above.

Don't get all nervous. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. Let's just start with that prompt and see what it gives us.
Here's exactly what mine looks like.

I even used the same prompt that I gave you.
Here's my results. Midjourney will give you 4 samples to choose from. You can pick one or all or even have them regenerated.

AI Art is Perfect for Vintage Aesthetics
I feel like AI tools are great for capturing soft textures like those doilies, the pastels in the light, and even the styled setups. There's no way I could pull off that Pinterest look by myself. I guarantee I'd spill something or have everything on one side of the image.
And if you happen to not like the results? Just have it regenerate. That's so much better than having to repaint or set up photography shoots.
I LOVE ai art for things like printables, blog posts, and hobbies – scrapbooking anyone?
Tools You’ll Need (All Free!)
Remember, you can do all of this for free! Once you figure out the tool you like the best, you can determine if you want to pay. I love PlaygroundAi, Ideogram, and Midjourney. Chat is just assumed in my house.
Here are more that people like – Bing Image Creator, Medium, and Sora (for videos).
If you're a Canva fan, you can even make them in there!

The Exact Prompt to Use
I literally explained this to my son the other day. When you create a prompt, you want a subject, a description, a setting, and action as well as lighting or medium. You can take it further if you want – check out the free Facebook group and see what some members are doing. The possibilities are amazing!
Essentially you're saying I want this thing to do this and look this way. That's it.
Here's a bonus tip: if you add things like what kind of style, lighting, camera, medium you want used, you can get even more specific results.
For instance, using the same prompt above, I'm going to add “watercolor” to the end. It gave me some beautiful iterations! This is definitely what I had in mind when I tried creating vintage tea set with my ai art.

How to Use Your New Ai Artwork
There are so many things you can use Ai art for. I can't draw a straight line so for me, it has opened up so many possibilities.
Some things my AI Art Club members have been sharing and selling! are printables (wall art, stickers, cards), social media graphics, digital products or freebies, and even mockups for your shop.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Let's not use too many keywords at first in our prompts to make sure we're not overwhelming our tool. Remember, we want to treat them like a 10-year-old on pop or sugar.
Another common mistake to avoid would be assuming that lighting isn't important or even camera angle. I think you should start with the simple prompts first and tweak as you need.
And remember, getting stuck on the first try is something you can avoid. Keep trying. There's no reason to stop when it lets you recreate over and over. The only thing limiting you is the amount you can do free.
So go give making vintage tea set as ai art a try and let me know what you come up with! I can't wait to see!
